From the collegiate weight room to the golf course

Ashley spent eight years as a collegiate strength and conditioning coach at Michigan State, Washington State, and Eastern Washington. She worked on the Olympic side at each, which put her in the weight room with men's and women's golf, volleyball, swimming, tennis, and track and field.

She got there by way of Texas Tech, where she played softball and earned both her bachelor's and master's in Exercise Sport Science. She stayed on after graduating as a graduate assistant with the Olympic strength and conditioning staff, which is where coaching became the career rather than the sport.

Before joining Seattle Golf Fitness she was a performance coach at Future, working with clients remotely across the country. She now leads the coaching staff at our Mercer Island facility.

Ashley grew up in Walla Walla, Washington. Golf is the sport she keeps coming back to, and being able to spend her career in the weight room and around the game at the same time is what brought her here.

WHAT I WORK ON

Rotational Power

I played softball and spent years coaching athletes in rotating sports. The golf swing has the same problem underneath it: producing force from the ground and getting it through the body in the right order.

Building the base first

Collegiate programs work because they build general strength before anything sport-specific. I take the same approach with golfers. Speed work lands better on a body that can handle it.

Training that fits a season

You should not train the same way in February as you do in July. I program around when you are actually playing, so the work supports your season rather than competing with it.
