HEAD OF PERFORMANCE

He sets the standard everyone else coaches to

As Head of Performance for SGF Group, Zach leads program design, evaluations, and coaching across all of our facilities. Whichever location you train at and whoever your coach is, the standard behind your program is his.

He is based at Scottsdale Golf Performance, where he coaches clients directly, and oversees the coaching staff in Seattle and Vancouver from there.

He joined the group after two seasons as strength and conditioning coach for Florida State University's golf program. When he left, FSU were ranked first in the country in men's golf and fifth in women's. Before Tallahassee he worked at Northern Arizona University and Regis University.

In 2025 he was named to Golf Digest's Best Fitness Trainers in America list, one of 75 nationwide. He also received the Golf Fitness Association of America Industry Leader award. He holds TPI certification at Fitness Level 3 and Power Level 2, the upper end of a system that runs from Level 1 through Level 3, alongside the CSCS.

Zach is a lifelong golfer who plays and practices as much as the job allows. He has coached everyone from business professionals to tour professionals. The physical problem is often the same at both ends; what changes is how much of it you can fix at once.

WHAT I WORK ON

Speed, measured

Clubhead speed is trainable and it is testable. I want a number before we start and a number after, not a feeling that things are going well.

Programs that survive a season

Collegiate and professional golf taught me to build training that holds up through a competitive calendar. Peaking for a tournament and staying healthy through the year are the same problem.

Coaching the coaches

A lot of my work now is on our staff rather than on the floor. Every client at every location should get the same quality of evaluation and the same quality of thinking behind their program.
